Short overview of the cellphone

With Samsung’s Omnia success, it seems like everyone’s taking shots at it - including Asus. According to some well rumored sources, this might be Samsung’s biggest challenger, featuring a 5MP camera and a 3.5″ touchscreen display that can render anything at a 800×480 resolution.

From what I could tell from some leaked photos, the cellphone seemed to have a front camera as well, leaving me with the thought it might also feature 3G connectivity.

The design part is pretty impressive, featuring an outer-casing made out of stainless steel and a monochromatic minimalist design. Regarding the tech specs, the word is that the cellphone is going to have a 4GB internal memory - with expansion possibility via a microSD card - and all the wireless connectivity you can think of ( WiFi, Bluetooth, aGPS ), all incorporated into a 13,8mm thick cellphone.

Oh, did I mention it also includes an Accelerometer ? I wouldn’t be surprised to see some of Apple’s iPhone functionality amongst it’s features.

USB powered anion humidifer

usb powered humidifer pictureYes, yet another useless USB powered gizmo. I’m starting to think it’s a trend to invent utterly crappy devices and launch them on the market.

After reviewing so many USB powered gadgets that had absolutely no meaningful use ( USB powered desktop fan, USB powered desktop speakers and a USB powered outdoor thermometer - and some other, just use the search box and enter usb powered), I’ve got to say this one’s the closest to having a real purpose.

This can shaped device is meant to freshen the air around you and allow you to breath clean O2 rich air.

When you absolutely, positively can’t find anything else to do with $24.99, the “Portable Can Shape USB Office Home Miniature Anion Humidifier” is there.

Cute green looking usb desktop hub-fan

Cute green desktop usb fan pictureAny self respecting geek should own such a toy - it looks pretty coolish, although the green is a bit flashy, you’ll have something too cool you of during the hot summer days. And that’s not all, if you’re still not satisfied you’d be more than happy to find out this desk fan also doubles up as an usb hub - a 4 port one.

For $15 you’ll get this small fan that re-circulates the air ( and probably dusts off your desk as well ), a 4 port USB hub and an ON/OFF switch to shutdown the fan when you’re don’t need it. Also comes with 4 pieces of anti-dust stoppers that keep the dust away and other damages.

Kensington launches USB wireless dock

Kensington wireless usb dock pictureYesterday, Kensington announced the launch of it’s latest product, the Wireless USB dock - no more pesky cables to mess with from now on.

Even more, Kensington apparently decided to give this device a DVI output to sweeten the deal even more. The DVI device can output video signals of up to 1680×1050 which are standard resolutions for most 20-22″ monitors. Besides the DVI, the Wireless USB dock features 5 USB ports and a stereo mini jack for external speakers.

According to Kensington, you could also use an external HDD with it and everything would run smooth. It currently supports Vista and XP but according to Kensington it should support any wireless compatible PC.

The device has been announced to ship by the end of the month through Kensington’s own shop and will priced at $230.

Crystal USB powered desktop speakers

No, they’re not some fancy luxurious over-priced speakers - they’re just some plain 1W USB 2.0 powered speakers priced at a mere $39.99. That’s all there is to it unfortunately. Besides the cool aspect don’t expect too much out of these speakers as they’re rated at only 1W per channel.

They’re compatible with almost every OS - meaning no drivers required - except Linux.

Here’s a breakdown of the tech specs according to ThinkGeek :

  • Small USB speakers that produce quality audio output
  • Rated at 1 Watt per channel
  • USB 2.0 compatible
  • USB HID spec. v.1.11
  • Compatible with Windows98SE/ME/2000/XP and Mac 9.x (no drivers required)
  • Dimensions: 1.6″ x 2.1″ x 3.5″ (4 x 5.4 x 9cm)
